When residing in Los Angeles (January 2000-June 2003) Lydia Lunch starts working on her "Smoke In The Shadows" album, initially a big band jazz flavoured album. In paralell with this and several other projects she also starts a collaboration with Tommy Grenas and Len Del Rio of The Anubian Lights.
With them she finalizes the "Smoke In The Shadows" album during the Spring of 2003.

January 2000 US CA,Los Angeles,Newzone Studio,Lydia records "Heart Attack And Vine" for "New Coat Of Paint- Tom Waits tribute" V/A album. Engineered by Wayne Peet.
Line-up: Lydia Lunch (vocals) with Nels Cline (keyboards/guitar)/ William Tutton (bass) [both Geraldine Fibbers] and Joseph Berardi (drums) [Congo Norvell, The Mentones, Non Credo].
At the same time she records 3 tracks co-written with Nels Cline ("Hangover Hotel", "I Love How You..." and "Johnny Behind The Deuce") for an album which was initially titled "Torcher". Engineered by Wayne Peet. "Hangover Hotel" and "I Love How You..." were made available as digital download via Lydia's first web page in November 2000. Line-up: Lydia Lunch (vocals)/ Nels Cline (guitar) and Carla Bozulich [both Geraldine Fibbers] and West Coast big band/soundtrack jazz musicians: Alex Cline/ Joel Hamilton/ Joe Berardi/ Vinny Golia/ Chuck Mannin/ Don Ostermann and John Fumo.
