The year in which Dirty Three's "Whatever You Love, You Are" album is released. First they tour Australia, followed by a 9th North American tour, then a 4-month break, a UK festival tour, a 10th North American tour, and ending the year with a European tour. Close to 70 live dates in total. Warren also records with The Bad Seeds for their "No More Shall We Part" album.

2001
The year in which our desperate threesome demo for their "She Has No Strings Apollo" album, but the recordings are scrapped. Dirty Three is dormant. Jim and Warren tour the US as Nick Cave's backing band, Warren tours for 3 months with the Bad Seeds, Mick records his second solo album "Moth", Jim and Mick tour with Will Oldham, Boxhead Ensemble and as Tren Brothers. Jim tours with Smog.
Dirty Three perform live only 4 times.

AU Melbourne,Phillip Island, beach house of Mick Turner's studio. Dirty Three demo for the "She Has No Strings Apollo" album.

Note: All songs are rejected. "Ellis, Turner and White spent two weeks writing and working out tunes, only to scrap everything they'd done. The music just didn't feel right. "We literally just threw it out," Ellis says. "There wasn't really anything salvageable in there at all, so we decided to move on." More than a year went by before the band tried again." We were playing before Florence and the Machine at some festival, and Ed Kuepper, the guitarist who was in the Saints, he turned up, and afterward he said: “Wow, it was so encouraging to see that show. Warren Ellis continues his collaboration with Nick Cave as member of The Bad Seeds and (co-)composer (with Nick Cave) of film soundtracks.

Mick Turner continues to perform live, solo or backed by Ian Wadley (bass), Jeffrey Wegener (drums), or Mike Noga (drums) or Kishore Ryan (drums), as well as exhibiting his painting and sculptures.

In 2013 Jim White teamed up with Cretan lute player Yiorgos 'George' Xylouris. Together they perform as Xylouris White.
